Alicia Woynarski, Mezzo Soprano

Alicia Woynarski is a singer with a beautiful warm mezzo-soprano voice and compelling stage presence. Originally from Regina, Alicia completed a Bachelor of Music at University of Western Ontario and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Masters degree in Vocal Performance. Operatic roles include Dorebella (Accademia Europea Dell'Opera), Cherubino (Saskatoon Opera), the title role in Carmen (Vancouver Island Opera); Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte (European Academy of Music, Czech Republic); Tessa in The Gondoliers (Westben Theatre); Florence in Albert Herring (UWO); Principessa in Suor Angelica (Opera NUOVA).

The 2012-2013 season began with of a twenty show tour of Dean Burry's Isis and the Seven Scorpions, with Little Opera on the Prairie. In November, Alicia was the guest soloist with for Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Regina Philharmonic Choir and RSO. In April she took part in 40th Anniversary performance of the Swift Current Oratorio choir as their alto soloist for Handel's Messiah, with the Regina Chamber Orchestra. During the summer Ms. Woynarski toured schools with Saskatoon Opera, performing The Magic Flute and in their main stage opera, Carmen; she sang the role of Mercedes. In Portland, OR, she sang the role of Hansel in PSOW's Hänsel und Gretel.

Concert performances include guest artist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Regina Symphony Orchestra and Mercury Opera, Edmonton. Concert repertoire includes A Night at the Proms, and Sing-Along Messiah (VSO), 104 Underground and Alley Oop (Mercury Opera), Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Jenkin's The Armed Man, Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, Claussen's Creation (RSO), Bach's St. John's Passion, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb (UBC) as well as Vivaldi's Gloria.

Alicia is a recent recipient of an Independent Artist, Saskatchewan Arts Board grant, a winner of the Vancouver Women's Musical Society Competition and a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Western Canada District Auditions. Upcoming engagements Handel's Messiah with the Saskatoon Symphony, recital premieres of new works by Frank E. Warren in Calgary, Regina and Saskatoon and Die Zauberflöte with Saskatoon Opera in June. I am very excited to be a part of A Little Opera on the Prairie's production of Hansel and Gretel with such a wealth of talent from Saskatchewan!
